Way Cool Tattoos was established January 1990 in Richmond Va. The original shop was located on Broad St only a few blocks from the VCU campus, in the heart of Richmonds Rock and Roll district. The original artists were Crazy Ace Daniels (owner) and Jeff Eden. They were soon joined by Jason Hobbe. Eileen Moshier began her apprenticeship at this shop as well. Notable clients included members of Agnostic Front, Biohazard, Pigface, Del Amitri, GWAR, Ministry, Black Flag, Circus of Power and numerous others. Due to a decline in the neighbourhood the Richmond studio closed in May 1992.

Ace Returned to his home country of Canada on June 23 1992, and on July 5 1992 the Queen Street shop opened its doors. Ace was soon joined by Psycho Dave, Carl Carscallan, and Carlos "Harley Charlie" Duarte. The floor was handled by Pat "Slappy" Patterson, and Terry Ferrier. Over the years the Queen Street shop has had many artists including Kian Laprad, Anthony Stephenson, Steve Moor, 5-2, Adam Sky, Thor, and others.

Ace opened the Niagara falls studio next, in July 1994. Ace and Charlie worked the store that summer, and EM came up to round out the crew. In the years to come there have been many fine artists working at the Niagara shop, including Curt Wiscomb, D. C., Sailor Fred, Lloyd, Jason Hess, Dave McKenzie, Pierre and Piercer Dave.

The Uptown studio was opened By Anthony Stephenson in 1999. The only artist to have leaftUptown has been Paul and he returned to Australia to open his own studio. Uptown is located on Yonge St. in the North York district of Toronto.

Way Cool Oakvill is the most recent addition to the Way Cool family. Established in 2000 by Anthony, it passed into the hands of Bert Jackson shortly thereafter. Artists include Bert, Grove and Cory, along with Mat the piercer. Orbit and Jolly have moved on.
